Dubai Initiates Quest for top dining establishments excelling in food safety, nutrition, and innovation

Dubai’s local government has announced the inaugural DM Food Elite programme, a new initiative aimed at recognizing the top food service providers in the region for their commitment to food safety, nutrition, sustainability, social responsibility, and innovation.

The initiative, spearheaded by Sultan Al Taher, the head of the Food Safety Department, reflects Dubai Municipality’s ongoing dedication to fostering a sustainable food ecosystem. This system is designed to not only meet exceptional health and food safety standards but also to reinforce Dubai’s reputation as a sustainable metropolis with superior living conditions and adherence to the most rigorous international safety and sustainability benchmarks. The DM Food Elite programme primarily seeks to celebrate the contributions of food-related organizations that have played a pivotal role in enhancing this ecosystem, thereby reinforcing Dubai’s position as a leading global commercial center, in line with the Dubai Food Security Strategy.

Selection Criteria
According to Al Taher, the DM Food Elite will distinguish outstanding food enterprises across three categories: standalone dining establishments, hotel-affiliated restaurants, and quick-service eateries and cafeterias. Candidates will be assessed and chosen based on five key aspects: the establishment of a strong food safety culture, dedication to the government’s health, nutrition, and sustainability efforts, and the integration of digital technology and business innovation.

The sustainability benchmark includes metrics related to environmental stewardship, societal impact, and managerial conduct. The food safety excellence culture standard evaluates factors such as managerial dedication to food safety and proactive strategies to maintain safety throughout the supply chain. The technology and innovation criterion examines the measures taken by food businesses to ensure sophisticated traceability, transparency in the food supply chain, and the use of data for informed decision-making.
